Why Drinking More Water is the Way to Go

How much water do you drink everyday? Drinking more water can be beneficial to your kidneys, help maintain your weight, allow your skin to stay hydrated, and help boost performance during exercise. The more water you can drink, the more of a balanced life you will live.

Why is drinking water so important?

We often hear about the importance of drinking water, but maybe don’t fully understand how necessary it is. Water makes up more than 60 percent of the body, and is essential in maintaining a variety of our systems. This includes our digestive system, circulation, and even the transportation of nutrients.

Water is also essential for our kidneys. Because our kidneys clean out the toxins in our body, they need to have a sufficient intake of fluids. If we fail to drink an adequate amount of water, kidney stones and other problems are much more likely to occur.

Because our skin is an organ, water plays an important role in helping it to remain healthy. Water can improve your complexion, reduce puffiness, clear acne, slow aging and even tighten your skin.

Water helps you from the inside out. So, how do we remember to drink it? What can we do to make sure that we are drinking enough water everyday?

How to Stay Hydrated in 5 Steps

The key to staying hydrated is to create good habits. Once you create a strong habit of drinking a substantial amount of water each day,

it will become much easier and you won’t have to worry about it. The following steps will help you to build the healthy habit of drinking at least 6 glasses of water a day, helping you to look and feel your best.

  1. Keep track of your water consumption- Consider starting a water journal and recording how many glasses you drink and at what times. If journaling is not your thing, there are a variety of apps that can help.

  2. Bring a large water bottle with you wherever you go- If you start out your day knowing that you need to complete the water in the bottle before lunch, and then the water in the bottle again before dinner, it will help you achieve your goal. It is also a great visual reminder.

  3. Drink water after bathroom breaks & before leaving for lunch- This can be an easy reminder to always drink water while you are already up, and can be especially helpful in the workplace.

  4. Add fruit- If you struggle drinking water because of the taste, adding fruit can give it a sweeter taste and help make it easier to drink.

  5. Set a reminder on your phone or calendar- Something as simple as “hey siri remind me to drink water tomorrow at 2pm” can have a positive effect on your health.
